About Me

I'm a soon-to-be graduate studying BA (Hons) Costume and Performance Design at Arts University Bournemouth. Since beginning my studies at university, I have discovered a passion for historical costume and period dress, and post-university it is my aspiration to become a member of the costume team on period dramas for TV and film.

Throughout my studies, I have learned many new skills that will aid me on my journey into the industry, including tailoring and corsetry. Corsetry and period underwear is something that has become a strong interest of mine over the course of my degree, and is certainly something that I could see myself pursuing and even specialising in. What interests me most about period underwear is the way in which different silhouettes can be created, and how it has the ability to completely change somebodies shape.

I have worked on several live productions, both inside and outside of my studies. A particular stand out was constructing a full 18th century pirate costume for the AUB graduate production of 'Treasure Island'. It was the first time I had seen a full garment that I had constructed on stage, and it has only spurred me on to work on more live productions like that. Outside of university, I have taken on roles including assistant stage manager and wardrobe assistant on an amateur production of '9 to 5: The Musical'. As well as taking measurements for the entire cast and being responsible for costume sourcing and making, I was in charge of the costume organisation in the wings to ensure that the show ran as smoothly as possible.

In my spare time, I like to up cycle pieces of old and vintage clothing into something new and wearable. I record my up cycles on my Instagram page, showing what the piece of clothing looked like before, and how it looks after I have up cycled it. As well as this, I like to participate in the other side of theatre and perform in productions myself. Experiencing both sides of the theatre is important to me, as having a decent knowledge about the performance side of theatre is vital when working backstage.
